Conference: “Some global challenges of educational systems”
The next CIE-UMa Conference entitled “Some global challenges of educational systems”, presented by Professor João Costa, Director of European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education, is part of the Curriculum research line, as it addresses contemporary transformations that influence the definition and implementation of curricular policies.
The speaker will explore the impacts of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity arising from the digital revolution, geopolitical instability, and climate change, highlighting how educational policies are shaped by global pressures and social, economic, and cultural interests that influence curricula and the profiles of valued competencies.
The emphasis on inclusive education and diversity connects directly to debates on culture, equity, and curricular justice, revealing how public policies seek to respond to – or sometimes perpetuate – social and cultural inequalities. This opens a space for discussion within the field of Critical and Post-Critical Curriculum Theories.
João Costa’s contribution aligns with the core concerns of this research line: understanding how educational policy guides curriculum development, the interests and values underlying these choices, and how relationships between knowledge, ideology, culture, and power influence curricular decisions in both national and global contexts.
The conference will take place at the Colégio dos Jesuítas Auditorium on 19th of December 2025, from 10h00 to 12h00, under the moderation of Professor Liliana Rodrigues, responsible for the Curriculum research line.
Registrations are open until 16/12/2025, and will close once the venue reaches full capacity.
