Comparative Conferences [May 23]

The Comparative Education Section of the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences (SPCE-SEC), as part of its conference series “Comparatively,” a recurring scientific event aimed at exploring relevant topics in the field of Comparative and International Education, announces the upcoming conference titled “The ‘Programme for International Student Assessment’ (PISA) as a tool for regulating educational policies”. This scientific event is supported by the University of Madeira.

The second “Comparatively” conference, featuring Professora Estela Costa, will take place on 23th May, 2025, at 2:30 PM, in the Rectorate Auditorium of the University of Madeira (Jesuit College, Funchal), with online streaming via Zoom for participants who choose this option during registration at: https://forms.gle/pQdirjLh1jECaFUN7.

Starting in April 2025, the “Comparatively” series brings together academics, researchers, teachers, and students interested in the dynamics of education across diverse contexts — national and international, regional and local. Each session offers an opportunity to discuss emerging topics, both local and global, reflecting on educational and pedagogical practices, public education policies, and the challenges and opportunities for education in different countries and regions, with a particular focus on Portugal. The initiative embraces an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, fostering dialogue and knowledge sharing among experts, and reinforcing the role of Comparative Education as a key field in understanding the complexities and transformations of education on a global scale. Currently, the Comparative Education Section of the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences is coordinated by Professor Dr. Nuno Fraga from the University of Madeira.
