As a result of the pandemic that is plaguing the world, we are faced with an extraordinarily difficult context of health, economic and social crisis in which the most fragile are the most penalized. University of Madeira’s Education Research Centre (CIE-UMa), mindful of this outermost region’s situation, aims to open up space for reflection and analysis of sustainable social intervention models, enabling Education to become a driving force for local and community development, combining training with research to improve the population’s quality of life.
The aim of this Colloquium is to open up to new understandings of Education that go beyond the walls of the school, to empower local communities without losing sight of globalization processes, emphasizing the values of citizenship, balanced development, social cohesion and inclusion, as well as risk prevention in the face of environmental vulnerabilities, climate change, biodiversity protection and health impacts, seeking to respond to educational and community needs.
