A thematic session on Early Childhood Education will take place on the upcoming 12th of October, starting at 2:30 p.m., in the Senate Room, located on floor -2 of the Penteada Campus. This scientific event, entitled “New Learning Scenarios in Early Childhood Education: Pathways for the Transformation of School”, is organised by the Education Research Centre of the University of Madeira (CIE-UMa) and aims to: discuss learning scenarios in early childhood education, reflect on their importance for the training and balanced development of the child, contribute to the education of students in the Initial Teacher Education programmes of the Bachelor’s in Basic Education and the Master’s in Preschool and Primary Education, and promote the professional development of Early Childhood Educators in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM). The session will be moderated by Professor Gorete Pereira, researcher at CIE-UMa, and will feature a diverse panel of specialists in the field. The opening address will be delivered by Full Professor João Formosinho of the Portuguese Catholic University, one of the leading Portuguese experts in Early Childhood Education, whose reflection will focus on Pathways for the Transformation of School through (Early Childhood) Education. The Regional Directorate of Education will be represented by Dr. Vanda Oliveira, Head of the Division for Preschool and Primary Education, who will address the topic Early Childhood Education Policy in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The programme will also include the presentation of two Good Practice Projects, led by: Educator Mariana Estrela, pedagogical director of Universo dos Traquinas nursery, presenting on Mindfulness in Kindergarten, and Educators Eugénia Freitas and Fernanda Pereira, from EB1/PE da Ladeira e Lamaceiros (Calheta), sharing a case study on Curriculum Development in Preschool Education – A Cooperative Practice.
